St. Joseph’s Hospital Reduces Workflow Costs and Improves Patient Safety with Advanced Wireless Mobility Solution from InfoLogix
HATBORO, PA – November 18, 2008 – InfoLogix, Inc. (NASDAQ: IFLG), a leading provider of enterprise mobility and advanced wireless asset tracking solutions for the healthcare and commercial industries, announced today it has successfully designed and deployed a mobile technology solution for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY.
In late 2007, St. Joseph’s recognized that mobile technology was a critical component in their quest to reduce operating costs through automation and enable clinicians to spend more quality time with patients. St. Joseph’s selected InfoLogix to help them develop an organizational-wide mobility strategy and wireless infrastructure to take advantage of leading-edge mobility applications. InfoLogix performed and managed all aspects of the wireless initiative including mobile network design, technology installation, end-user training, and ongoing support and maintenance.
After their initial wireless network deployment was completed, St. Joseph’s began searching for a mobility solution to help them automate the labor-intensive, manual processes associated with collecting blood samples and specimens from patients. Specifically, St. Joseph’s was interested in pioneering a fully-integrated MEDITECH Wireless Phlebotomy System and, once again, they turned to InfoLogix for help, based on InfoLogix’s specialized healthcare expertise garnered from working with more than 1,400 hospitals nationwide.
As one of the only MEDITECH affiliates for wireless and mobile computing in the country, InfoLogix leveraged its practical healthcare experience and deep technical expertise to seamlessly integrate the MEDITECH Wireless Phlebotomy System into St. Joseph’s day-to-day clinical workflow. As a result the initiative, St. Joseph’s now enjoys a streamlined, technology-enabled process that allows their phlebotomists to confirm patient IDs, perform specimen collection and labeling, store critical data and better manage their work load, all directly at the point-of-care. This significantly decreases time and resource requirements for the hospital and dramatically reduces its margin for error.
“The innovative mobility solution InfoLogix deployed for us has helped transform our clinical workflow processes and now it’s an integral part of our inpatient healthcare delivery organization,” says Len Kaner, chief information officer at St. Joseph’s Hospital. “Today, our phlebotomists can more accurately confirm a patient’s identity, verify the specific tests they are about to perform, and then print customized, specimen labels right at the patient’s bedside. This is a quantum leap forward for patient safety and staff productivity.”
“As part of our mission to provide intelligent mobility solutions, we’re continually striving to find new ways to help customers leverage wireless technologies to solve real-world business problems,” notes Rick Hodge, Executive Vice President of InfoLogix. “We’re delighted the mobility solution we deployed for St. Joseph’s is now part of the backbone of their organization, as well as a key ingredient in delivering high-quality patient care.”
